"Ride to the Refuge Grant" Funds School Transportation!

Need a Ride to the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge?

The Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge offers high quality field trips with hands on experiences for students.  In order to help students get to the Refuge, the Friends of Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge has established a funding source to provide transportation dollars for the 2017-2018 school year for Elk Grove Unified School District and California Waterfowl Association.  The Friends agreement with EGUSD will provide up to $350 for transportation for a single trip for schools in the district with a maximum of two field trips per school per school year.  Friends of the Refuge would consider additional Ride to the Refuge Grant agreements with other school districts or organizations which need transportation funding for Environmental Education programs at the Refuge.  Please contact the Friends for more information.

The first step for teachers is to contact Amy Hopperstad, Park Ranger at the Refuge, to arrange the date/time of the Refuge site visit.  After the date and time are set, the application can be completed and submitted by email to the Friends at jeanne@friendsofstonelakes.org or through the mail at Friends of Stone Lakes NWR, c/o Jeanne Cunningham, 3732 Red Eagle Ct., Antelope, CA  95843.

The applicant will receive an email from the Friends of SLNWR with further instructions if the grant is accepted.  If submitting an application on-line, please indicate "Ride to the Refuge Grant" in the subject line.
