Visit the Refuge and meet the Friends

There is always something to see at the Refuge.  Come to Blue Heron Trails and be surrounded by the songs of Redwing Blackbirds and Meadow Larks.  Keep your eyes open for all sorts of wildlife.  A bird/animal list is available for download at Wildlife List and Blue Heron Trails is open free, 7 days a week.

On specified Saturday and Sunday mornings, a Friends’ Board member will be present at Blue Heron Trails to welcome visitors and provide them with information about the Refuge, the wildlife and the Friends.  Weather permitting, the current schedule is:  February 22, March 1 and 8.  Check this website for updates to that schedule.

There are occasional docent led walks (fall through spring) and staff led kayak trips on the lakes (summer).  These events take place in areas that are not normally open to the public.  To find out about upcoming events, go to:  Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

And remember to bring your camera and your binoculars!
