The Friends of SLNWR voted to establish a scholarship through the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation in 2019.  The current scholarship amount is $2500. Selection criteria is based on a student's interest and experience in Environmental Sciences. The scholarship will be given to a student who wants to pursue a career in Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental and Natural Sciences. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students intending to study fields relating to the wise management of Wildlife/Natural Resources and to promote awareness of the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.

On May 4, 2023 we presented Natalie McKnight with this year's scholarship. She is an outstanding student at Franklin High School who plans to attend University of Nevada at Reno and major in Wildlife Management.  She also is an accomplished vocalist and an amazing individual overall.
