The Friends of SLNWR voted to establish a scholarship through the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation in 2019. The current scholarship amount is $2500. Selection criteria is based on a student's interest and experience in Environmental Sciences. The scholarship will be given to a student who wants to pursue a career in Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental and Natural Sciences. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students intending to study fields relating to the wise management of Wildlife/Natural Resources and to promote awareness of the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.
On May 3, 2024 we presented Madelyn Brewer with this year's scholarship. She is an outstanding student at Laguna Creek High School in the IB program, with a final project focusing on Native Birds of the area. Madelyn plans to attend UC Davis and major in Wildlife Biology.
