Nature Bowl 2019 Semi-Finals hosted by Friends of the Refuge were held at Blue Heron Trails in Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge on April 30th and marked the 34th year for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s event. Nearly 100 third through sixth grade students from schools in Elk Grove and Sacramento City Districts experienced the natural environment through engaging outdoor science activities.
Leonardo da Vinci third/fourth grade team and fifth/sixth grade team coached by Debra Dodd and David Celeste were selected to compete at the Finals on May 11th at Sacramento State University. A photograph will be posted as soon as permission is received.
Runner-up teams were Elliot Ranch third/fourth grade team coached by Lesley Brashier and Elk Grove Elementary fifth/sixth team coached by Lynette Mate.
Coordinators for schools and volunteers were Ellen Vasta and Priscilla Cox with volunteer judges from Friends of the Refuge, EGUSD and the community. Participating elementary schools were Leonardo da Vinci, Elk Grove, American River Montessori, Isabelle Jackson, Elliot Ranch and Union House.
