Join our Board!

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join the Friends of Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Board of Directors!

First, a little information about Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge itself. The 6,550 acre Refuge is managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. It is located 10 miles south of Sacramento along the western edge of I-5 and directly west of Elk Grove. Despite being so close to urban centers, it is often referred to as a “hidden gem.” The Refuge hosts a variety of Central Valley habitats and is a key stopping off point for migratory birds on the Pacific flyway.  See more Refuge information at the USFWS WEBSITE.

The Friends of Stone Lakes NWR is an independent, volunteer organization of individuals who work to support the Refuge and its staff in their resource management efforts and to encourage the public’s use, enjoyment and awareness of the Refuge.  See more about the Friends at OUR WEBSITE . The Friends of Stone Lakes NWR is a 501(c)(3) organized as a California nonprofit, public benefit corporation.

The Friends Board of Directors is currently looking to fill several Board seats. For a broader perspective, interested persons can review the attached PDF regarding: Desired Skills, Interest and Background as well as the Responsibilities of the Board of Directors. You are also welcome to contact us through our email: habitat@friendsofstonelakes.org.  We are happy to answer your questions and provide information, including upcoming events, opportunities to meet our current board, and if you are interested, send you an application.

We seek to give equal value to all voices in helping to articulate and implement our mission, vision, policies and best practices.
